Family Engagement

Parent Engagement

My name is Mr Graham and I am the Family Engagement Officer for Monnow Primary School. Please keep a check on our School Twitter site and our website for the latest opportunities to come in and work with your children. We are always looking for parent volunteers so do come in and speak to the office.

Parental Engagement Workshops @ Monnow Primary School

This year at Monnow  we are continuing our Parental Reading Workshops. These are workshops where you can come in with your children and have some fun. It is proven that when children see their parents engaging with school life they learn more! These sessions are informal, fun and a really good way to meet other parents and build friendships.

If this is something you would like to be involved in, please do express your interest at the office.

Family Learning Signature

Since September we have been focusing on Nursery and Reception families and inviting them to complete a Family Learning Signature. This is a great way to help families come together and celebrate their strengths and their learning. It gives families a chance to feel proud of what they do together. It is also a valuable tool for schools, as it enables us to find out ways we can further support our families and helps us to know if we are on track with what we are offering our children and their parents.

It is not an assessment, there are no right or wrong answers. The Signature simply gives a snap shot of how the family is learning at that moment in time. It is easy to complete, anyone who you feel has a part to play in your family life can attend with you. The session is relaxed and informal (there may even be tea and biscuits!), and everyone can join in, including the kids!

The Signature consists of 36 triangles that are coloured in depending on how the element affects your family. It is an opportunity to think about and discuss your strengths and to look for a way forward in any element you feel you may need support with. This could be in the form of a school based session we put on for all of our families or just a chat you have with your family about what you think you could do to achieve this goal.

It doesn't matter which year group your children are currently in, if you feel you would like to complete a Signature, pop in and see Mr Graham or telephone the main office.

Jesus Cares

Jesus Cares are an organisation based in Newport which aims to deliver food hampers to families across Newport. Pop into the office to take a bag home with you.

‘Monnow needs you’

At Monnow we also encourage volunteers to help out at our school

Other volunteers prefer:-

·      Fundraising for the school by selling raffle tickets (santa run??)

·      Preparing refreshments etc. and generally socialising with other parents/carers at fundraising events.

·      Organizing a stall at the Xmas fair?

·      Helping on Sports Day

·      Helping out at discos and special events.

(basically any event when extra help is required.)
