Comenius Project 2013-2017

We have recently been successful in setting up Comenius at our school. This is a 2 year international project where we will learn about our partner countries and exchange work with them. At present our two partner counties are Germany and France.

Comenius has two main objectives:

  • to develop knowledge and understanding among young people and education staff of the diversity of European cultures and languages, and the value of this diversity.
  • to help young people to acquire basic life skills and competences for their personal development, for future employment and for active European citizenship

Monnow’s project is called ‘The Magic European Box’ which will focus on a different area of the curriculum each term. Each topic will start with a whole school assembly, where our ‘Magic Box’ will be opened and will contain items related to each topic, from our country and from our partners country.

Our first term will be learning all about our local community and our partner countries local community and will produce books called “All About Us” which some of the teachers will take to Germany in November to share with the children there.

We are really looking forward to finding out information about our partner schools this year.

Teachers Visit to France

The teachers had a fantastic time in France and exchanged all of the Comenius work the children at Monnow had completed during the term. The children are enjoying finding out about the different schools and the teachers get to see how schools in different countries operate.

A French TV channel were present at the school. Please click below to see the clip.
